NZIM Educational Philosophy

Teaching programmes and qualifications are only important if they engage students in learning that is meaningful and valued in their present and future lives. All our qualifications from the foundation skills of the Certificate in Management to specialist and higher level leadership competence are designed to build the management ability of people in their working lives.

People can only be good managers of their learning, their lives and their work, through critical perception and reflection, through action and feedback, through experimentation and analysis.

Our focus is on student-centred learning. Our practical and accessible qualifications give students skills that they can apply in their day-to-day work or life experiences. The courses can be adapted to meet particular learning needs and student interests, and can be combined to provide a unique integrated experiential programme.

Whoever provides our courses designs the assessments using guidelines that show how they can be integrated with the teaching and learning programme.

NZIM works in partnership with providers and the courses are delivered by schools, polytechnics, and private training establishments, as well as by distance and through work-based learning options.

In short, our qualifications are:
  • Practical
  • Accessible
  • Applied in participant’s daily work life
  • Adaptable to meet student, provider and workplace needs
  • Student-centred
  • Flexible
  • Integrated
  • Enterprising
  • Stepping stones to higher qualifications
