The NZIM National Board determines national policy direction for NZIM regional offices as well as for NZIM National. NZIM co-ordinates and manages national policy initiatives in areas such as image-building, promotion and representation.
NZIM is represented as the 'voice of management' on many governmental and professional organisations. These include 'Project Collaboration', a Ministry of Economic Development initiative to develop the capability of small to medium businesses, as well as the NZQA Advisory Steering Group for Business and Management. NZIM National engages with a number of organisations to promote the development of management skills and business capability. These include the Tertiary Education Commission, NZ Trade and Enterprise, the NZ Quality Foundation, Business NZ, the Chambers of Commerce, ITOs, universities and polytechnics.
NZIM National manages the quality of our national and regional qualifications. It takes responsibility for the development and approval of all NZIM qualifications, as well as registration, accreditation and audit. It maintains the national student database and registry, ensures the qualifications are moderated and reviewed on a regular basis and that the quality of resources and delivery is kept to a high standard.
NZIM National takes responsibility for the development and management of a number of approved qualifications delivered by secondary and tertiary providers throughout New Zealand. The NZIM Certificate in Management and its related Certificate in Small Business Management are offered through around 180 providers, with 12,000 papers passed each year. Both qualifications have credit inclusion into NCEA and can be used to gain University Entrance. They are used as foundation programmes by a number of businesses, and can provide credit into trades qualifications and diploma programmes.
Other qualifications offered through NZIM National include the Small Business Entrepreneurs Programme (an action research programme for small business owners), the Diploma in Management, and the Diploma in Management (Advanced). The Diplomas in Tourism Management and Travel Management are offered jointly with ATTTO, the industrial training organisation responsible for tourism and travel.
NZIM National also provides a Diploma in Health and Safety Management occupational safety and health.
NZIM National works with the regional offices to provide national benefits and support for members.
NZIM National participates in a number of research projects and surveys including the annual Management Capability Index survey. For details click here.
In 2004 NZIM launched a foundation to provide support for projects and initiatives that lead to improvement in management capability in New Zealand. As the fund grows, so does our ability to offer support. The foundation is run through NZIM National.
